Do You Love The World?

John 2:15-17; Doug Hayes, June 6, 2010

 

Do not love the world or the things in the world.

If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

For all that is in the worldthe lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of lifeis not of the Father but is of the world.

And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.

 

I.                   The World

 

a.      The World that God loves

Jn. 1:10 The world was made by Jesus, the Word of God; Jn. 3:16-17 God loved the world, and that it is the object of Gods saving purposes; 1:9; 8:12; 9:5 Jesus as the light of the world; 4:42; 1 Jn. 4:14 Jesus is the savior of the world; 1 Jn. 2:2 He is the propitiation for the sins whole world; John 1:29 Jesus is the sacrificial lamb that takes away the sins of the world.

 

 

b.      The World that hates God

The world, under the ruler of this world, in hostility toward God and His people Jn. 12:31; 14:30; 16:11; John 15:18-16:4

 

 

c.       The World we are not to love

1 Jn. 4:4; 5:19; 4:1-3

 

II.                Loving the world vs. doing the will of God (vv. 15 & 17)

 

 

III.             What is in the world not to be loved Lust (vv. 16 & 17)

 

a.      The lust of the flesh

Christ has come in the flesh, 4:1-2

 

b.      The lust of the eyes
